The basic aesthetic elements of capoeira were brought to Brazil by slaves from Africa. These elements were recombined and reinterpreted within the diverse slave community of Brazil to create a unique means of self defense, both driven and disguised—as merely a dance—by its musical accompaniment.
I think it’s great for kids because it combines the benefits of traditional martial arts with dancing, acrobatics, singing, making and playing instruments and learning the basics of a foreign language (portuguese).
Leonardo has been doing capoeira for two years now. Gloria just ended her first year and little Chiara can’t wait to join them!
